Distribution/habitat : red pandas live in the temperate forests of fir, broadleaf and rhododendron in the Himalayan foothills (between 1,000 and 4,800 m altitude), from India to southern China, via Nepal, Bhutan and northern Myanmar. It is particularly fond of bamboo undergrowth, which provides most of its food.
Diet: the Red Panda eats mainly bamboo, and may also feed on small mammals, birds, eggs, flowers and berries. As it cannot digest cellulose, it must consume a large volume of bamboo to survive. Its diet consists of around two-thirds bamboo, preferably leaves and young shoots, but it also eats mushrooms, roots, acorns, lichens and grasses. Occasionally, they supplement their diet with fish, insects, birds or small mammals. They can eat up to 200,000 leaves a day.

Height: 50 to 60 cm long excluding tail, which is 30 to 50 cm long; less than 30 cm at the withers
